Speed Networking for Home Business Success

You may have heard the term "speed networking" buzzed about a lot recently. It has become a very popular and fast growing form of networking and growing your business. So how does speed networking work?

Well, you have probably heard of speed dating. Speed Networking is exactly the same principle just adapted for business. Attendees are seated in pairs and each one has between 2 to 5 minutes (this varies depending on the event) to introduce themselves and what they do. At the end of their time a whistle blows and one of the parties moves to the next person on the right until everyone has had a chance to meet. It’s an excellent way for people who find networking difficult, to meet others. It also breaks the ice for any general networking which might follow afterwards and gets around the age old problem of only talking to people you already know.

So you've booked your place in a networking meeting, but what can you do to get the most out of the session? As with all marketing for your business, preparation is vital.

Bear in mind that you've only got a few precious moments to get across what you do and more importantly the benefits of your product or service, so you really should practice what you are going to say before you go. What do you want to get out of the event? What is it about your company that you really need people to know?

Below are some useful questions which might help you figure out what you want to say:

1. Who is your ideal client?
2. Which companies are you trying to get into?
3. What services do you offer?
4. What is your Unique Selling Point (U.S.P.)?
5. Why should someone choose your company?

You could also practice your 60 second or "elevator" pitch (a very quick way to get across exactly what you do in sixty seconds or less). If you get that right you'll actually have time to spare on being specific about who you would like to meet and which companies you want to work with.

Further Tips:

- If you are seated opposite to someone you already know, tell them something they don't know about your business - have you set up something new recently, a new service or product? What do you currently need?

- If you're opposite someone new, help them out. If they're struggling to think what to say, ask them questions. What kind of questions? The ones above are a good start.

- Speak clearly - you can say more in 2 minutes than you think.

- When the other person is speaking, don't keep talking about you - it's your turn to listen.

- Be genuinely interested in what the other person has to say - as with general networking it's all about building long term relationships. Take time to see if you can help with any connections or advice your partner might need.

- If the organizers have allowed time after the speed networking for general networking then think about who you want to talk to again and how you can further the new relationship.

Speed networking, just like any networking isn't rocket science, it's thinking about what you want to say, being clear and to the point, listening carefully to the other person and seeing what you can both get out of it.

And it really is a lot of fun, so don't be afraid to get out there and give it a go. You never know how far it can bring your business unless you do it!

Powerful 'Soft Marketing' Tactics Your Business Can Use

Whether you are marketing online or offline, your potential customers are probably scared and skeptical. Consumers today are quite resistant to sales messages because they are bombarded with so many of them all the time.

Back in the mid 70's, a store could run a simple "10% off" sale and people would flock in. Then the big stores got into the discounting mentality. Now it is common to see "70% off" sales everyday - especially in jewelry. The consumer is not too long a fool. These promotions do not produce the wanted response anymore.

Repeated, high powered sales events create a downward spiral. Eventually you cannot offer a big enough "deal" to get the public excited. The big three car makers played this game for three years. By January 2006 they found themselves in deep financial trouble. They had borrowed customers from the future by offering a bigger, better sale every couple months. It is a deep grave from which to crawl out.

Successful businesses, now and in the future, will be practicing what I call "soft marketing". To make sales today, marketing efforts have to come in under the consumer's sales-pitch radar.

Many of the big companies have known this for some time because of their on-going marketing analysis. You can take advantage of their research for free.

Look at Coca-Cola for example.

Coke was famous for their flashy, high-powered TV ads. Today you seldom see such ads. Have they cut back on their marketing expenditure? Here are two ways Coke is using a soft marketing approach to build profits and market share.

Coke's soft marketing techniques have made them almost bullet-proof in the soft drink market. They have built an image of being the most popular soda. Since it is human nature to want to be on the winning team, swarms of new customers are joining the group every day.

Here are three powerful soft marketing tactics you can start using today.

1. Become known as an expert. Credibility and trust are the two most important ways to succeed in any business. Write and submit articles and press releases. If you cannot write, hire someone to do it for you. There are several wonderful writing service websites on the internet. They can be very cheap. Also, you should join a "Private Label Rights" content site. They provide already written articles that you can put your name on as your own. This is pure gold for online or offline marketing.

If you have a business on Main Street, your local newspaper should be your best friend. Do whatever you can to develop a relationship with them. You may or may not be able to get your news articles and releases printed for free, but even buying the space will return big dividends.

2. Give away a free report on the topic of your product or service. Your local newspaper will probably give you some free editorial space in the beginning if the report is of interest and free to their subscribers. A real life example is a realtor in this area that offers a free report - "10 Ways To Get Top Dollar For Your Home". It reveals what is valuable, and what is not, when getting your home ready for sale. With this he becomes the expert in the consumer's mind and a person who cares about them.

You can get a book or report written for you for a few hundred dollars by the same on-line companies that ghost-write articles and press releases or from your "Private Label Rights" membership site. This realtor has been using the same report for over ten years now. It is estimated this report has generated about $1.6 million in profits.

3. Partner with related, non-competing businesses. One dry cleaning operation partnered with clothing stores in the community. The store, when selling a garment, would give a gift certificate to the customer. The gift certificate was good for a free first-time cleaning and pressing of that new garment.

The customer thought the store was paying for the dry cleaning. The fact is the dry cleaner was giving the service for free. The customer saw the store as being a "hero" and the store saw the dry cleaner as being a "hero". Both stores gained a load of new and repeat customers.

Use these soft marketing strategies or think up your own to fit your business. Have some brainstorming sessions with other energetic, savvy business people, like yourself. The resulting ideas will amaze you, and your traffic and profits will increase as if by magic.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the best way to drive long-term targeted traffic to your website. Maximizing the benefits of a well optimized website can yield tons of traffic and money for the website owner. However, SEO can cost you thousands of dollars if you are not careful how you go about it. There are hundreds of SEO companies out there just itching to get your money.

To be honest, you don't need some high priced Search Engine Optimizaton company to handle your SEO efforts. Often times you can do it yourself for much cheaper and more effectively as well.

If they are high quality then people will want to read them and they will visit your website. This is one of the best ways to increase your link popularity and get you ranked highly in the search engines. In fact, this has been my best SEO technique by far!

3. Catchy Domain Name

What better way to help ensure that your visitors remember your website than with a very easy to recall domain name? Something short and sweet will prove to be very valuable. Registering your domain name is not free, but creativity is!

4. Good Website Navigation

Providing easy navigation throughout your site is one way to help your visitors find what they are looking for on your website. This, in turn, will improve the flow of traffic to your website and bring back repeat visitors because they are finding what they need. It also helps the search engine spiders find all the pages on your website which will help increase your rankings. Great for SEO!

How To Pick Profitable Adsense Keywords

Knowing how to find the best keywords to use in your Adsense site is not a straight forward process. Finding and implementing high profit, low competition keywords in your ads really is the trick for making Adsense payoff big.

The following process should yield profitable, low competition keywords for your Adsense efforts. This process is not perfect, but when you analyze it and try it for yourself, you can see that it makes sense. Adsense that is!

1) Research some keywords for your niche that have a high cost per click value. To do this, first find your keywords using the Google Adwords keyword tool or another tool that will give you niche specific lists of keywords. Save those keywords into a spreadsheet program as a csv file. Copy and paste those keywords into Google's Traffic Estimator (you will need an Adwords account). The traffic estimator will give you the estimated clicks per day and the average cost per click (CPC) for each keyword. Copy and paste this information back into your spreadsheet file for later reference.

2) Multiply the average CPC by 30% to get an estimate of your maximum earnings per click. The higher the average CPC, the more likely the CPC for the 2nd - 8th positions are high as well. You want this higher average CPC to start because if the CPC starts to drop off significantly after the 3rd position, your chance of getting high click earnings as an Adsense publisher will be diminished.

3) Use any one of many tools available on the internet for helping to estimate the 1st - 8th position CPC values. These tools will estimate the CPCs for each position and allow you to see how much the CPCs drop off after the first position. This dramatically helps your analysis for picking the most profitable keywords. If the CPC values stay close to the each other and to the value of the first position, then you will more than likely have a profitable keyword.

4) Now determine which Adsense ads occupy which positions. You can do this by searching on Google for your keyword and looking to see which Adsense ads are generated in the search results and in which order they are. Another way to estimate this is to use the Adwords Accelerator tool. It has a feature whereby Adwords ads are dynamically displayed for a given keyword you input into the tool to check. If the Adwords advertiser has used "Adwords for Content" in his advertising, these ads will be the Adsense ads someone else is displaying on their website.

5) Compare the ads you found in step 4 to the results of using a keyword check function tool (available on the internet). If the advertisers you find by doing this closely match those you found in step 4, you will more than likely have a profitable keyword.

If the advertisers are not he same, then the advertiser is possibly not using the "Adwords for Content" mode of advertising in his campaigns. This means that the keyword may not be the basis for the Adsense ads and may not be profitable.

6) Now you must get the traffic. If you decide to get traffic using the Adwords approach, then just use the keywords in your Adsense ads that scored well from the above evaluation. Then, use lower cost per click keywords in your Adwords ads. The difference between the earnings from the click you get on your Adsense word from the cost of the click you pay on your Adwords word will be your profit.

If you are planning to use search engine optimization techniques to get traffic to the website where your ads are, make sure the keywords you choose have the highest KEI possible. KEI is the ratio of the number of searches for a keyword to the number of competing sites having the keyword. The combination of a high KEI and a high score from the above evaluation will yield the best profit results.

Free Home Business Advertising Secrets

The opportunities for getting free advertising for your home business are limited only by your own imagination and energy. There are so many proven ways of promoting your own home business for free that it literally boggles the mind just to think of listing them. However, I have given you some of the more effective free advertising methods below...

One way is to write articles relative to your particular expertise and submit them to all the websites, article directories, publications, and other media in your niche who take submissions. In other words, become your own publicity and sales promotions machine. Get the word out and establish yourself as an expert in your field. At the bottom of every article be sure to include an "about the author" resource box. This will have a little blurb about yourself and/or your home business, a link back to your website, an email address, or a number to call if you are not an online business.

Another really good way to get free advertising publicity is by becoming a guest on as many of the radio and television talk shows or interview type programs in your area as you possibly can. Actually, this is much easier to do than you may realize. Simply write a letter to the producer of these programs, then follow up with a personal visit or telephone call. Your initial contact should emphasize that your product or service would be of interest to the listeners or viewers of the program... perhaps even saving them time, money, or making thier lives easier in some way.

Other ways of getting free or very inexpensive exposure include the posting of free advertising circulars on all the free bulletin boards in your area, especially the laundromats, grocery stores, convenience stores, post office, banks, and beauty shops. Also, do not discount the idea of handing out circulars to all the shoppers in busy shopping centers and malls, especially on weekends. You can also enlist the aid of students in your area to hand out circulars door-to-door. You can pay them some money for their help or give them something for free.

Some of the more routine free advertising methods include having a promotional ad relative to your product or service printed on the front or back of your envelopes and stationary.

Be sure to check all the publications that carry the kind of advertising you need. Many mail order publications that are just getting started offer unusually low rates to first-time advertisers or a free-of-charge insertion of your ad when you pay for an order to run a certain amount of issues. And there are a number of publications that will give you Per Inquiry (PI) space - an arrangement where all orders come in to the publication, they take a commission from each order, and then forward the orders on to you for fulfillment.

Many publications will give you a contract for "stand-by" space. In this arrangement you send them your ad, and they hold it until they have unsold space, and then at a price that's always one third or less than the regular price for the space you need,
insert your ad. Along these lines, be sure to check in with the suburban and neighborhood newspapers.

If you send out or publish any kind of catalog or ad sheet, get in touch with all the other publishers and inquire about the possibilities of exchanging free advertising. They run your ad in their publication in exchange for your running an ad for them of comparable size in yours. You will all benefit from free advertising on this.

Also, there is nothing in the world that beats the low cost and tremendous exposure you get when you advertise a free offer. Simply run an ad offering a free report of interest to your niche - a simple one-page report with an "about the author" box or "byline" inviting the readers to send money for more information, with a full page advertisement for your book or other product on the backside. Ask for a self-addressed stamped envelope, and depending on the appeal of your report and the circulation of the publication in which your ad appears, you could easily get hundreds or even thousands of responses!

The trick here, of course, is to convert all of these responses, or a large percentage of them, into sales. This is done via the "byline," which issues an invitation to the reader to send for more information, and the full page ad on the back of the report, and the other free offers you include with the complete package you send back to them.

Finally, don't ever forget about the most powerful free advertising method of them all... word-of-mouth! Tell everyone you can about your home business. You will be shocked at how well this works and it is 100% free to you!

Website Success in Just 3 Steps

To be sure that your website succeeds there are really just three steps you need to take. If you follow these three steps your web site will get visitors who come back time and time again. Plus you will rank highly in the search engines - and you should be able to make money from your web site.

One constant theme that emerges from the most successful online businesses and organizations is simplicity. Keep things simple and you will succeed. Try to do too much, or complicate things and you will more than likely fail. So, the three step process for Internet business success is simple, making it much more likely that you will succeed.

#1 Focus...

Decide exactly what your web site will be about. For instance, say your interest is in home business. If you produce a web site about home business, you will be competing against millions of others and it will be much harder to get noticed. It's best to narrow down your focus to something more specific in the niche. The more specific your niche, the better. Don't try to do too much - a single narrow theme is what you need for success. If you want to cover a broad subject, break it down into several narrow niches for separate web sites.

#2 Content...

Fill your website with content. The information you provide needs to be focused directly on your niche. You may need to write the main pages yourself, but there will most likely be many articles you can use from article directories and from private label sites that will help you fill out your web site. The more content you add, the better. Plus, be sure to add articles and information to your site every week or every day if possible... the more the merrier! That will get people coming back to your site and it will also make sure the search engines notice you.

#3 Links...

Get links from other sites, but don't try to get links from just any old site. Instead, get links from relevant sites related to yours. In our example this would be other home business sites, or sites on working at home. A link from a friend's site on another subject is of no value. So, search the web for websites that are relevant to your interest and then ask the webmasters to link to your site, in return for providing a link to them on your site.

You can also submit articles to the hundreds of articles directories and other sites that accept articles. This is a great way to get inbound links to your site. Just be sure the article is quality and not some hidden advertisement for your business. Also make sure you have an "about the author" box with a link to your website in it.

With these three steps you are assured of online business success. These are the key steps taken by almost all of the most successful sites you will encounter.

One other thing... adding Google AdSense to the pages of your web site will generate more cash for you. The more content rich and highly focused your site, the better the response you'll get to the adverts you carry. And that means you will make more money from Google Adsense.

Make This YOUR Year!

Welcome back home business tips readers! Today's post
is a little out of the ordinary but still I think it is
vital to your home business and life success in general.

With the new year now fully upon us and our lives back in
the swing of things, I want to ask you a few questions and
challenge you as well...

With the new year starting what are you going to achieve
this year?

This time next year will you be one year older with nothing
else to show for it?

Will you be a little more in debt and a little more

Will you hate your job just a little more but can't do
anything about it?

With all the layoffs these days, will you even have a job?

Is your stress level going to be even higher this time next

Are you still going to be sitting there saying, "I am gonna

Are you going to have that usual pile of "woulda", "coulda",

How to Make Your Sales Letter Sell!

When writing a sales copy, most internet marketers agree that a long copy will typically sell more than a short copy. This does not mean that the more words the better; quantity can be good but quality of detail is most important.

Having the correct sales structure will keep the reader interested from start to finish. These are the steps to follow to create a successful sales letter:

1. USE A POWERFUL HEADLINE. Express the main benefit of your product in a short sentence. Grab your readers attention and make them want to continue reading. A "How to..." headline is usually a very good one to use.

2. CREATE EXCITEMENT WITH A SUB-HEADLINE. In no more than two or three short sentences, expand on the benefits of your product and generate excitement in your reader. If you are offering a limited promotion, specify the limitations of your offer here.

3. OUTLINE THE BENEFITS OF YOUR PRODUCT. Give the reader three good reasons to buy your product. These reasons have nothing to do with the product's features; think about what your customer wants. For example, if you are selling holiday villas, say something like:

"If you want to take advantage of the comfort of a luxury apartment, enjoy the Mediterranean sun and save money on your summer vacations, then this might be the most important letter you'll ever read"

4. EXPLAIN YOUR UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION. This is the specific benefit that differentiates your product from all the others. At this point, you must mention your USP in one or two sentences. You will explain the details later in the sales letter.

5. PROVE YOUR CREDIBILITY. The most important thing to sell on the internet is credibility. Your readers have to trust you before they will buy anything from you. Give them three reasons why they should believe you. Try to prove that what you say is true.

6. INCLUDE CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS. In order to continue establishing credibility, mention testimonials of customers that have already bought from you and enjoyed your product. Have them mention what they liked most about the product instead of making general comments like "I really loved your product..." or something similar. Mention as many testimonials as you can and make sure they are true... Do NOT make them up!

7. EXPLAIN THE FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF YOUR PRODUCT. Explain how your product will improve your reader's life or how it will solve a problem. The more detail you can provide, the more convincing your copy will be.

8. PROVIDE MORE DETAIL ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT. Here is where you can tell the reader everything about your product. Use as much space as you need. Write until it becomes redundant or boring.

9. ELIMINATE THE COMPETITION. You eliminate your competition by giving your reader the information they need to see that your product is superior. Mention the elements where your product is excellent and much better and/or different than your competitor's.

10. BUILD VALUE. To build value in your offer you have to let your readers know that your offer is so good that they cannot refuse to take it. One way of doing this is to compare the value of your offer with the normal value of your product.

11. PROVIDE A SUMMARY OF EVERYTHING YOUR CUSTOMER WILL RECEIVE. Make sure your reader understands everything s/he is going to get from you.

12. MENTION THE PRICE OF YOUR PRODUCT. Mention the regular price and the sale price of your product. The regular price must be crossed out and the special sale price must follow.

13. GIVE BONUS PRODUCTS. The objective is to prompt immediate action by offering an extra bonus. With this strategy, you are also adding value to your product. You can also try to create a sense of urgency by telling that the bonuses will only be available for a short time.

14. OFFER A STRONG GUARANTEE. The strongest guarantee you can offer is a "money back" guarantee. The willingness to offer your product at no risk will generate a lot of trust and confidence among your readers. You have to honor your guarantee for any returns you may get, but you can be sure that the sales you will generate with this strategy will by far outnumber the returns.

15. RE-EMPHASIZE YOUR GUARANTEE. Remove all elements of risk by closing your sales copy with something like:

"You don't have to decide now if this product is for you. Just give it a try. If it doesn't do everything I say and more, if you don't save money, or if your business doesn't improve, or if your life isn't better, or if you don't absolutely love it, just let me know and I'll give you every cent of your money back! So you have nothing to lose and everything to gain."

16. TELL THEM HOW TO ORDER YOUR PRODUCT. Provide detailed instructions about how to place the order. Sound like a stupid thing to need to point out? You would be surprised how many people actually skip this step!

17. SIGN THE LETTER. Use your full name and title. Even online there are programs you can use to make a true copy of your signature and put it on your site.

18. CLOSE WITH A "P.S." Use this part to emphasize the most relevant points of your letter. Studies show that most readers will read a P.S. even if they only skim the rest of the sales copy.

Remember that this will be a long sales copy that will take your readers some time to read. With this in mind, you must work on the format and design of the copy so that it is as friendly as possible. Highlight the most important statements, so that the letter can also be read in one or two minutes.
