How to Spot a Money Making Scam

Hello biz tips readers,

Your free online business tip for today is about how to spot a money making scam website....

Okay, here's the deal. If you want to spot your typical guru "scam" site in a heartbeat, here are some things you will probably see on the sales page, in this order:

1. Some ridiculous headline promising some large and weird amount of money in a very short period of time, like "$27,427 in 30 days GUARANTEED"

2. Claims that you can make this money with almost NO work.

3. Some story of how this person finally figured this all out and is practically GIVING this stuff away because there's plenty for everybody.

4. Testimonials of people who have used this product and state how great it is.

5. Screen prints right on the sales page of all this money they made using this system. I'll touch on this more in detail because there is something you need to know about these screen prints.

6. A ton of special bonuses that they "value" at these ridiculous sums of money that they're throwing in with the main product.

7. A one time ONLY offer of $49.95 (or whatever the price is), reduced from the ridiculous amount that it was, usually between $97 and $197.

8. A bunch of P.S. and a warning that the price may go up tomorrow to the "regular" price so you better get it today. Some sites even have a timer on them that says "if you order in the next 30 minutes." Of course if you go back 3 hours later, it will still say "if you order in the next 30 minutes."

Let me touch on number 5 because this is very important. I learned this first hand from one of these "gurus".

What they do is release the product and send ads to their in house list. These are people who have already bought from them and trust them. So they make a lot of sales. They then start to advertise to the general public. They can show all this proof of income that this "thing" works only because they sold it to their own list. Take a look at the individual income amounts. You will see they are ALL for the same amount or for a fraction of it (if sold through another affiliate) So there is no proof that you will actually make money with this thing other than if you simply try to sell it to some other dumb jerk.

Please understand that the above checklist is a short summary of each bullet point. Analyzing this really gets into more depth, but if you can quickly spot these "checklist points" you have more likely than not run into your typical piece of garbage Clickbank product.

Will you get some results with some of them? Yes. Will you make the money that these gurus made selling to their in house list? Doubtful. Will you make the money they CLAIM you will make on their sales page? Highly unlikely.

Like they say, forewarned is forearmed.

You Need Money to Get Web Traffic…Huh?

It takes money to make money. That statement is pretty much a universal truth Here’s another truth that applies to the internet. To make money from your website you must have a steady flow of website traffic. No visitors, no income. This has been the downfall of many internet businesses.

Now you might ask “sure it takes a steady flow of traffic but don’t I need a fat bankroll to generate that TRAFFIC?”

In technical language: Uh-uh.

Ever wonder how the big boys (and girls) drive traffic to their sites? Yes some of them are spending tons of money investing in advertising campaigns and different marketing schemes etc and it works for them. Nothing wrong with that, if you have the budget for it.

But many top marketers are taking different approaches; less expensive methods that are driving traffic to their sites and making them just as much money as the heavy spenders.

Don’t have much money?

Exchange Links

Once in a blue moon, you see a site where there is no link to another site. Many webmasters are willing to exchange links with so they can create more public awareness about their sites. By exchanging links, you’ll soon see and experience the sudden upsurge of the traffic coming to your site from other sites.

In exchanging links, your site should have the same niche or similar content as the other site. Your target audience needs to see a certain continuity in information and/or services between your website and your link partner.

Another benefit of link exchange is it increases your website’s chances of getting a high ranking in search engine results. Search engines love sites with inbound and outbound theme-related links. A higher ranking means more traffic to your website without the high costs.

Traffic Exchange

Traffic exchange services are the viewing of another person’s site or page within a system. You submit your website then visit other member sites to earn credits. This increases the number of visitors to all the sites within the system. The more you view (also known as surf) the more traffic you get to your site.

Write and Submit Articles

This is my favorite. There are many newsletters, online encyclopedias and article directories on the internet which provide free space for articles to be submitted. There are also freelance writers willing to write for you for a small fee. Many are very good but save money and write the articles yourself.

Write articles that are related to your website’s theme. Write something that you have expertise on or a passion for so that when people read your article, they feel your knowledge and excitement about the subject and will be eager to visit your site..

Include a resource box at the end of your article that links to your site. Write a little about yourself and your site. An interesting article packed with quality information can keep people coming back to your site for months, sometimes years after you written it

Make a Newsletter.

This may sound like a lot of work but it’s not. There are many writers and sites that are willing to provide free articles as long as they can get their name in on your newsletter. This will also provide free advertising for them as well.

As your newsletter gets pass around, you can widen your public awareness and build an opt-in list that can regularly visit your site.

Join Online Communities and Forums

This only requires your time and nothing else. You can share your knowledge and expertise with many online communities. You can get free advertising when you go to forums that have the same subject or niche as your site.

As you build your reputation, you also build the reputation of your site, making it a reputable and honest business that could be frequented and trusted by many people.

I’ll be the first to admit that having the duckies to invest will only help your business but don’t let the fact that you maybe short on funds stop you. Use these very high powered resources on a consistent basis and you won’t be low on traffic for long.

Blogs - An Easy Alternative to a Website

These days, it is much easier to create a website than it used to be. In general, website-creation programs are much simpler to use - and you also have the option of signing up with an online web host with easy-to-use page creation tools.

But the biggest change has to be the advent of the blog.

"Blog" is short for 'web log'. Blogs started off as a way for people to create an online diary. Bloggers would simply log on, tap out a paragraph or two giving their thoughts on life and the universe (and everything in between); click 'publish' and that was that. Their words were live on the Internet for anyone to see. The big appeal of a blog was that it was interactive: readers were welcome to add a comment on any post, with a link back to their own blog or website.

Gradually, bloggers started to want more. They wanted easy ways to upload photos, and extra pages on the site - just like a 'real' website. They wanted a range of themes, to better express their personality or business.

Programmers everywhere came to the party, particularly with WordPress, a well-known open source. Now, if you want a website/blog, it's possible to:

* Sign up with a webhost with Cpanel for a low monthly fee

* Install WordPress with just a few clicks of the mouse, using Fantastico on your website's Cpanel

* Either use one of the pre-installed themes, or browse the various themes available at WordPress (and on many other sites) to choose one that suits your personality or business

* Upload the theme you want to the wp_contents folder, using a simple FTP program (such as WS_FTP or Cute FTP)

* Start posting your articles or comments

* Add extra pages to your site (if you want to)

Now that you can add separate pages to blogs - just as you can with a standard website - many people are turning to them as their preferred way of building a website. By using various plugins, it's possible to do pretty well anything you want.

=== What Are "Plugins"? ===

Plugins are extra features available for your blog to make your life easier. You can get plugins, for example, that will:

- help you block spam

- make it easy to upload and sort your photos

- ping the search engines so they know when you've added new content

- insert AdSense blocks so you can earn money from your blog

There are quite a number of plugins available now - take some time to find out what they will do.

=== Help With Using Wordpress ===

While Wordpress is not the only blog software available, it is an excellent choice because (a) it's free; (b) it's relatively easy to use; (c) it's open-source, and therefore has a lot of people working on it constantly to make it better, and (d) there are quite a few 'how to' sites on the Internet showing you how to make the most of your Wordpress blog.

One of them is Guido Stiehle ("The Jungle Marketer") who offers an excellent free tutorial (with video tutorials) that will show you, step by step, how to set up and use your blog. You can find other providers by simply typing 'how to use Wordpress' into a search engine.

Spend an hour or two browsing, and you'll see why a blog is a very viable option for establishing your presence on the Internet.

Free Online Business Tip: Website Content - Quality or Quantity?

Website Content - Quality or Quantity?

When adding content to your website, what is more important, the number of articles you have or their quality?

For webmasters, content is king. Without any content, a website is worthless. Content is also very important for search engine optimization, to improve your SERP’s (search engine ranking position) and to increase your page rank. Search engines like to see fresh content added to a website and the more new content that you add to your website, the higher your particular website will rank in search engines. But when adding content to their website, should webmasters focus on quantity or quality? A large number of poorly written articles may help in search engines, while a smaller number of high quality work, may lead to repeat visitors.

The answer boils down to the basic fundamental principle that you build websites for people, not for search engines. The whole purpose to increasing your position in search engines and to work on search engine optimization is to gain more traffic. Many people use search engines daily to find websites and for the vast majority of websites, the bulk of their traffic comes from search engines. However, if you put many poorly written, low quality articles on your websites, visitors may visit your website, see the quality of the work, and never visit again. Pretty soon, the traffic coming to your website will be minimal at best. Hence, all of your efforts of increasing your search engine ranking and adding hundreds of articles have gone to waste.

On the other hand, if you had focused on adding quality, useful content for your visitors, your website would have had a much better chance of succeeding and earning a good amount of revenue. People would have seen your website and liked the articles that you had published, and chances are, they would return frequently to read any new content or articles you had added since their last visit. Hence, you would build a strong visitor base and be getting a consistent amount of traffic now, and months down the road. There are some exceptions to this rule, but generally, those who focus on the quality of their content come out on top. The key to the success of any website is traffic, and past experiences have showed that when adding content to your website, quality is more important than quantity.

If you are concerned that you may not be able to add quality content to your website and want the work of a well trained professional, hiring a copywriter is always a feasible option. However, when hiring copywriters for your website, beware that you get what you pay for. You should look for writers who have much positive feedback and pay them a fair rate for their work. There are many places where you can find writers for hire, but webmaster forums and other freelance marketplaces are the best options to find the right writer at the best price with the least amount of hassle.
