5 Tips for Home Based Business Success

The following tips will help you succeed in running your own home based business:

1) Learn to Sell: You are always selling something in a home based business. Understand that and you are more than halfway to success already. All businesses require you to sell – whether you’re selling yourself to do a job, selling a product or selling a service. Every business is about sales, and there are few exceptions to this rule. Learn to sell and you will learn how to succeed in any business.

2) Schedule your work time: One of the biggest mistakes people make in home based businesses is neglecting to structure their time. It’s extremely challenging to keep yourself motivated when you work at home because you’ve got your “real life” staring you in the face all day, and distractions are everywhere.

Procrastination is one of the biggest detriments to any home based business. The best way to avoid all of these problems is to set a work schedule for yourself and strictly follow it. Separate your work time from your personal time, even when you work in your home.

3) Have a dedicated work space: To help in keeping your work life and personal life separate, find yourself a work space (a spare room in your house, a section of the basement, a guest house, etc…) solely devoted to your home based business. It’s so much easier to stay focused and accomplish what you have to do when the only things surrounding you are directly related to your home based business.

4) Get a business website: A home based business website is almost imperative. Even if your home based business is not an online business or if you only promote affiliate programs, a website is needed for long-term success. You’d be cheating yourself of a huge opportunity to bring in business without a website, and without one it can be very hard for any home based business to compete.

Fortunately, domain names are dirt cheap and web hosting is not expensive either. Plus most good hosting companies include easy-to-use website building tools with their service plans.

5) Network: Networking has always been an important part of any line of work – whether you own the business you work for or not. The danger with home based businesses is that owners are often hidden from the rest of the world, holed up in their residence instead of out in “regular society”. Unless you take the initiative to include networking with others in your field and related fields in with your regular workday, it’s too easy to get lost in the shuffle and remain invisible to the outside world that you require in order to succeed.

There you have it, five tips to help you succeed in your home based business.

Do You Really Want To Be An Internet Marketing Guru?

If you look up the word “guru” in various online dictionaries, you will find quite a few different definitions, including the following:

1. An intellectual or spiritual guide or leader.
2. Any person who counsels or advises; mentor: The elder senator was her political guru.
3. A leader in a particular field: the city's cultural gurus.

If you think about it, none of the above definitions completely fit the term “guru” that we use to describe a person who is a master of internet marketing. The internet marketers we look up to; the one's making the most money; those we aspire to be like.

Now you might look at the 4th definition and say it basically describes what we think of as an internet marketing guru. They are leaders in their particular field. After all, we’re always watching to see what product he’s going to come out with next. We sure as heck aren’t watching Bob Smith down the block, but we certainly know what John Reese is up to. At least we know what his latest product is and when it's going to launch. Not to mention, when he enters the room we stand in awe of what he has accomplished and wish we were at that level.

But wasn’t John Reese a newbie just like you and I were at one time?

I look at myself right now and wonder if my success will increase to the point where I will one day be looked at as an internet marketing guru. Will I feel that is a title I have earned? Is that even a title that I want?

Think hard about this... If you’re labeled as a guru someday, people are going to be closely watching every one of your product launches. What if you come out with a new product that completely bombs and is a total dud? How is that going to make you feel? Do you wonder if people will look at you differently after that failure?

I have personally spoken to a number of internet marketing gurus and for the most part, they don’t tend to consider themselves as such. They usually just consider themselves as nothing more than hard working individuals who have attained a high level of success.

You may miss the point of this post because we are all so conditioned to looking at the most successful people in our field as gurus. But you need to remember that these were just ordinary people, like you and me, at one time. They worked hard to attain their home business success. But it certainly didn’t come to them through some divine intervention.

The point to the point is this... You may some day find yourself having the same kind of success that people like John Reese and other internet marketing "gurus" like him are enjoying. And I truly hope you do! If and when that happens, you may or may not want to be looked at as a guru. That is certainly your choice.

However, people may just look at you in that way whether you want them to or not. When they do look at you that way, remember how you looked up to those who you once thought of as unapproachable internet marketing gurus. You will then understand what it's like for them to have all that pressure on them to constantly live up to everyone’s high expectations.

So, again you have to ask yourself the question...

Think about it!

Who The Heck is Veronica Routtu and What Can She Do For Me?

Veronica Routtu is definitely not a 'guru' nor does she aspire to be one.

She is simply a single work at home mom who has struggled over the last 9 years to learn how to make a living online, so she can be home for her kids.

So...what does she have to offer you?

Well, over the last 2 years, Veronica has finally learned what it takes to make real money on the internet. You see, she got tired of struggling to figure it all out and in a last ditch effort to succeed, she finally invested in herself and got a mentor.

"I had gotten so discouraged because no matter how hard I tried, nothing was working. My kids were getting older and I started realizing that I had been SO focused on trying to make a living online (so I could spend time with my kids) that I was really was failing to meet THAT most important goal.

Even though I was home all the time with them, I was really only PRESENT and not ACTIVELY getting the quality time that I craved and my kids NEEDED.

My kids would come ask me to play with them and a majority of the time my answer was that I just didn't have time right now...maybe later...(If I ever got it figured out and could finally start making some money!)

This had me feeling so guilty and I was so torn because as a single mom, I needed to be able to support my kids, but I also realized they needed me to do more with them as well. I wanted them to grow up and have good memories of time spent together doing fun stuff, not memories of mom always in front of the computer saying, "Maybe later hon.."

One reason this especially hit me hard was that my youngest son, who I adopted at age 9 months came to me with Reactive Attachment Disorder. He was always a handful but when he started school the problems just got worse.

I realized that due to his special needs, I needed to make the changes that would allow me to spend more QUALITY time with both of my boys...It was imperative to their well being and happiness, that I not continue on this same path for another 7 years!

So, even though I had to do a lot of finagling of my finances...I invested in a coaching program and began to learn what it really takes to make money online...I will never regret that decision..."

Over the last 2 years, Veronica has been testing various elements that need to be in place to automate your online business. She has learned key factors that will help anyone succeed with ANY type of online business...And now she is setting out to fulfill another dream...

She wants to share what she has learned with other newbie’s or stay at home moms. She doesn't want you to struggle like she had to, to learn the ropes. During all those years she struggled to figure it all out, she always dreamed of the day she would be able to help other moms or newbie’s to avoid all the setbacks, wasted time and money of doing it all wrong.

In order to realize this dream, Veronica has created a FREE private forum and blog to share her online money making secrets with you. She intends to discuss basic elements that need to be in place for any business to succeed and then teach you to tie all those elements together to create your own automatic income system.

No, Veronica Routtu is not a 'guru' and she doesn't know it all by a long shot! She is just a normal person just like you and she wants to share what she has learned over the last 2 years, to help you succeed in YOUR online business.

Veronica Routtu believes that success begins when you take the first step. Get FREE Insider Access to her opt-in list, private blog and member's forum to learn top WAHM money making secrets to help you succeed online...

Ten Things I Know About Starting A Home Business Online

For many people, starting a home business online is a dream that has yet to come true. Becoming your own boss can be scary but also very exciting and rewarding. Below, I have given 10 things that I have come to know about starting a home business online after years of experience as an online entrepreneur.

1) The basic steps to starting a home business project: Choose a money making opportunity, do some research, take action, evaluate results. If you make money... repeat the process.

2) Starting an online home business is easy. Actually building a successful home business that makes you money is the hard part. Yet it can be done with enough time, effort, and desire to never give up!

3) Even if you don't make money with your first home business idea, you can always move on to another one.

4) If you have the time and money, it's okay to have more than one home business. However, when first getting started it's usually best to stick with one idea or opportunity and spend your resources on it. Once you have found some success, you can venture into more businesses.

5) Gauging the stability of each home business opportunity is very important. Don't quit your day job unless you are making enough money to pay your bills and sustain your lifestyle. And always have a back-up plan!

6) You can start a home business and make money online for free, or for a very small amount of money. Yes, it is possible but much harder and will take more time.

7) The old saying, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is" almost always applies in online home business opportunities.

8) Don't just copy a good home business idea. Put your own twist on it. Always look for a better way to make more money!

9) Technical knowledge is always useful, but you definitely don't have to be a technical person to start a home business and make money online.

10) When deciding what online home business you wish to start, think about your hobbies and passions. What do you have a lot of knowledge about? What do you enjoy? Can you make money doing something you already do for fun? If possible, you might as well start a home business doing something you currently enjoy!

My Favorite Work at Home Forum

There is definitely not a lack of work at home forums on the internet. However, not all are created equal. A few are great, some are good, many are alright, and plenty are pure crap!

But there is one that rivals the best of the best when it comes to work at home forums. It's called the WhyDoWork.com forum and there are not many of its kind.

I am a member of at least 75 forums (probably more) in the work at home / home based business / internet marketing niches and I visit about 10 or so of those on a daily basis. Actually, I am a Moderator and/or Administrator of five of them. Yes, you can call me a forum junkie!

The 10 forums I frequent (or moderate) regularly are well-known and have tons of members. All of them are great forums, but a few of them stand out above the rest and one of them is the WhyDoWork forum!

WhyDoWork.com is a very well established website that focuses on just about every work at home topic there is. All the work at home information and help you need can be found somewhere on the website (most of it in the forums).

The owners (admin) are very helpful and always trying to improve the user experience. The forum moderators (yes I am one of them) are extremely knowledgeable and give their time freely to help ensure all questions are answered and every member is able to find the work at home information they are looking for.

Overall I give them a perfect rating for every aspect of the WhyDoWork.com website, especially the forum!

It's free to join and has a great community. You should definitely become a part of this super work at home forum as soon as possible.

Sitewide Links: Are They Killing Your Traffic?

I was visiting one of my favorite home based business blogs today, like I do from time to time, and they recently posted a small experiment about the effect of sitewide links on your traffic.

This was quite interesting to me because I have been pondering and researching this exact same topic for a while now.

I've read many different views on the subject of whether or not sitewide links pointing to your website are good or bad. Some people claim they are great, some claim they have no effect, and some claim they are bad. One thing I have found for sure is that nobody seems to agree on it.

I have never done my own study on it so I can't offer a conclusion based on any facts, but my own opinion has always been that sitewide links are good to have, or at least can't hurt. Especially if the site with the links pointing to your website is in the same niche. However, I may be wrong.

The owners of the home based business blog that I read today conducted two small experiments to see what the effect of sitewide links had on a couple of their websites.

In both cases they put a link to the sites on an article directory with over 50,000 pages. The natural search traffic for both sites slowed after the links were added and picked back up once the links were removed.

This doesn't necessarily prove anything since it was only two small studies. However, it does at least show that it's possible sitewide links are hurting your natural search traffic. I suggest doing your own experiments with your websites and seeing what kind of results you get.

Remember to always keep testing, tweaking and researching to get the best results for your home based business website. You never know what you will find!

Trent Brownrigg
