Happy Halloween!

I know I am a few hours early (depending on what time zone you are in) but it's not like anyone is going to celebrate Halloween on a Sunday. Tonight is the night to celebrate!

Halloween parties, trick or treating, halloween family events, etc... it's all happening tonight. So, get out there and have some fun.

If you are in a country that doesn't celebrate halloween then just go have some fun anyway :-)

It's ok to take a night off from your business. It will still be there in the morning (at least I hope).

Free Targetted Traffic Tip -- Content Sites

Today I came across an article that I really liked, and thought it would be a perfect fit for our blog. I have pasted it below. I hope you enjoy it!


Drive More Targeted Traffic And Sales Than Mini-Sites And Gateway-Pages Combined

Many top gurus promoted mini-sites as the cheapest and easiest way to make a profit from an affiliate program.

Nevertheless, in spite of good intentions, it's well known that true-lasting success with the search engines, (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) is through a Theme-Based Keyword Focused Content site; which beats a mini-site and Door-way pages combined, anytime.

That is because a mini-site is not a viable concept for the average webmaster or affiliate, selling products of their own - or for a merchant partner. Lets look at these concepts.

What is a Theme-Based Keyword Focused Content Site? What is is a Mini-Site? And, What is a Gateway Page?

A theme-based keyword focused content site, is based upon a theme where every page focuses upon a single topic that is related to the theme. For example…

Let us say that your theme is soccer. Then, the theme-base related web pages will be about soccer and would include …

MLS Soccer - the soccer professional league in USA FIFA - the international soccer federation World Cup - Soccer's international world tournament The Euro Cup - European soccer's tournament Copa America - Latin America soccer's tournament Soccer Mom's Soccer Reviews Soccer Paraphernalia Etc… Etc.

Each of the above will be a specific topic, and each topical page is a "Keyword Content Focused Page. A theme-based site could grow well over 200 pages, each on a different topic, all related to the site's central theme (soccer). The sum total of all the information forms the content of your site.

Best of all, a tightly focused theme-base site scores well at the search engines for hundreds of soccer-related keywords that will indefinitely drive unlimited targeted traffic to your theme site, selling unlimited soccer related products.

On the other hand, Mini-Sites are small Affiliate sites that focus on selling a single product. It could be a short as one or two pages, and as long as 20 pages. It is composed entirely of a powerful sales letter that drives a visitor to a merchant's site.

Although, a mini-site is a well intended concept it's not a viable alternative for most products.. Here are a few of the drawbacks.

1. Hard to build traffic. Because they don't do well on the search engines. They aren't built to rank highly on the search engines, or to draw traffic from the most flexible directories.

2. No Credibility. Does not establish credibility in you or your product. A mini-site is a one time straight pitch sales copy; and, no one buys from a straight pitch Web site unless they previously have known, respect, and trust, a well-known authority related to the site's product.

3. No Diversification. If your mini-site sales copy fails to convert your prospect into a buyer, you've most likely lost that visitor for good.

In comparison, the Theme-Based Content Site offers greater opportunities for Affiliate and Webmasters.

1. Traffic The theme-based content site is full of content-rich pages designed to attain a high search engine ranking. On the merits of their valuable content they will draw substantial traffic from the Directories.

2. Credibility: They are great credibility builders because they're PREselling rather than hard selling.

3. Diversification Each page of a theme-based site may have from 5 and up to 10 links to merchants partner's sites for different related products..

Now, let us compare a mini-site that is about a certain manufacturer's soccer balls, versus a theme-based content site that is all about soccer.

A visitor to a mini-site falls within two categories …

(S)he needs new soccer balls (S)he doesn't need new soccer balls

While they may not need new soccer balls, they may need soccer shoes, soccer stockings, a sport's bag, soccer books, and tapes; maybe even a trip to a soccer camp, or travel arrangements to international soccer events, including hotel and transportation.

Now, suppose your visitor, upon reading your sales pitch for soccer balls says …. "No … I've just got a new ball", and then returns to the main page for more articles; do you think that placing the same link to those balls in the next article of your mini-site is going to be any more effective? No --- your visitor still recently bought a new soccer ball.

Nevertheless, because of the great content with in-context links on your theme-based site, the prospect may develop an interest on soccer related books, products, or services, etc.

The Theme-Based Sites vs. Gateway Pages

Gateway pages are trick sites used to trick the search engines. Generally, low-value pages that score well with the engines but fail to deliver good content. They may get the visitor, but fail to get the click through, the purchase, and the repeat business.

Tricks such as invisible links, lead search engines spiders through a site. Though they initially work, success is of short duration with devastating side effects, such as the visitor disdain, and getting band by the search engines.

A Theme-Based site, on the other hand, will OVER-deliver great content while playing it fair and safe with the search engines by leading their spiders reliably through your site. Their visible links do as good as the Doorway pages hidden links, and will never fade in effectiveness. That is because you are creating real content and not spider bait!

The Theme-Based approach is 100% different. First, you find a theme you know and love, with lots of profitable keywords. Second, research hundreds of profitable keywords (greater demand and less supply) related to your products or services. Third, you build a theme-base content site with great content, that ranks high on the search engines, delivers unlimited PREsold targeted traffic, and gets the click-through to your selling site, or a merchant's site.

As you can see…. The theme-based content focused site wins over a mini-site or gateway pages anytime. The secret of their successful high ranking on the search engines, is that each page is build around a highly profitable keyword content focused page.

The process may seem long, complex and tedious; and, indeed, it could be. Nevertheless, with the right guidance and tools it's easier than you think. In fact the entire process could be automated.

Great article, isn't it? Well, I thought so! It is such a true concept that I always tell people when I help them start their businesses. A content rich, theme-based website, that you build up over time, will be much more beneficial to your long-term business success than any amount of mini-sites.

Home Business Success Tip -- Learn from the Experts

There really is NO guarantee of success when starting a work at home business, however, you can make it a lot more likely that you will succeed by learning from, and following, the "gurus" of home business.

Find a home business expert, or guru (as they are commonly called), that is well-known, respected, and very knowledgeable, then model what they do. After you have mastered their style, you can create your own twist to it.

Of course, there are a lot of these gurus out there so don't try to take advice from them all or you will find yourself getting nowhere. It's best just to stick to one style, that you really like, and follow it.

Also, make sure you don't listen to just any so called "guru" ... ask around for opinions on them, check out some of their websites, try contacting them, etc... make sure they really are a well-known and respected expert in your particular business industry.

Work at Home Success Tip -- Unproductive Marketing

Let's face it... there are so called "marketing" tasks you do everyday that are quite unproductive.

By Stopping Unproductive Marketing Activities you will be freeing yourself up for more time to spend on productive marketing.

Think about all the "marketing" tasks you do in a day. Which ones are making you money or at least a part of something that is making you money ... and which ones are not? Get rid of the bad and keep the good. It's that simple!

If you must do all those "other" tasks then hire a college student to do them. You will know that he or she will be educated, will need the money, will work for fairly cheap, and it will give them good experience. It's a win/win situation for both of you.

OK, I can hear you through the computer screen saying, "I don't have extra money to be paying someone." This may be true now, but adding more productive marketing to your business day will increase your revenues. There, now you have money to pay your college intern.

Now, get out there and find yourself a way to free up time for productive marketing tasks!

Free Business Marketing Resource -- ListDotCom

Well, if you have been in online business, or internet marketing, for more than a few days, then you will no doubt have read something about how "the money is in the list."

Don't take that lightly folks because it is TRUE! It took me a long time to realize that, so I was behind jumping on the Opt-in List Building bandwagon. However, since I started building it, I now realize how important it is. All those people saying "build your list, build your list, build your list" weren't just blowing smoke up my butt.

I have actually talked about this subject in past blog posts (check the archives), so why do I bring it up again? ... Well ... it's because I have found a way to build a huge opt-in list for free, and it's much easier than waiting for thousands of people to sign-up from your website.

There are many ways to build your list. Probably the most effective is to offer a very informative newsletter on your website with a way for people to sign up for it. However, this way also takes the longest.

There are also numerous "list builders" out there, but most of them use spam, or other unethical business techniques to get their so called opt-ins. These are absolutely NOT worth your time. Do not utilize these.

Then, there are list building programs that actually are legitimate and will help you build an opt-in list without getting you in trouble. These are a happy medium between building your list from scratch by offering a form on your website, and building your list with some "automatic" list building scheme.

These types of lists will not be as responsive as the ones you get from your website, however, they are easier, quicker, and free to build. So, why not give them a try???

I recently signed up for a new free list building program, called and it has been quite effective so far. I certainly wouldn't trade my own opt-in list for it, but it's a nice addition to say the least.

They are very legitimate and have been working very well so far...

It is a proven fact that certain times of the day are the most creative and productive for people. Utilizing this time of day will do wonders for your business.

Some people are most creative and/or productive in the morning, Others are at night. I am sure by now you know what time of day it is for you.

It may not even really be a time of day. Some people are at their "best" after a nap, or after exercising, or in the shower, etc...

The point is that there is a time of the day when you can really come up with that great idea for your business, or get some of that business "to do" list done, or think of a JV idea or product, or anything else there is to do with your business or personal life.

Most people are brought up thinking that "work time" is from about 8:00am to 5:00pm. By simply reversing this way of thinking, and making your work time the part of the day when you are at your best, you will be much more effective.

Goals are very critical to your success. If you do not have goals for your business then you have no real direction to go in. It's sort of like being stuck in the desert without a compass... You want to get out but you don't know which way to go.

When you have business goals then you do know where to go and what you will need to get there.

When you write down your goals, you are no longer wishing you were successful, you are on your way to success.

When deciding on your business goals, it's a good idea to use the SMART formula. Be sure that your business goals are

(1) Sensible
(2) Measurable
(3) Achievable
(4) Realistic
(5) Time-specific

These five criteria are very important. Do not simply write down that you want to "be rich" or "quit your job" or "retire young" ... etc...

Instead write down how you will achieve it, how long it will take, what you need, etc... and be realistic about it.

Search Engine Optimization / Ranking Tip -- Site Map

One good way to optimize your website for the search engines and increase your rankings is to include a site map on all pages of your website.

In your site map be sure to include the links to all the pages of your website. This will help the search engines find and also index all your pages.

When the search engine spiders crawl your site they don't always enter from the home page, so it's good to give them a site map to find all the pages of your site.

Even if they do start from the home page, you probably don't have a link to all the other pages of your site from it. Once again, a site map will help the spiders find all your pages.

There is a LOT of evidence to show that search engines like a tightly linked site. Having a site map on every page, that links to all pages on your site, will ensure you have a tightly linked site.

OK, now you know, a site map will help with your search engine optimization aka search engine rankings. They are not too difficult to make or include on your site, so I recommend you get started on it right now.

Free Search Engine Ranking Tip -- Keyword Rich Domain Name

A good way to help your site in the search engines, with keyword targetting and relevancy, is to register a keyword rich domain name.

There is varying opinions on whether or not this will really help your ranking in the search engines. My opinion is that it certainly can't hurt and it is more likely help.

At the very least it tells your human visitors exactly what your site is about. For instance... if your site is about "work at home opportunities" then you want your visitors to be people who are looking to work at home. If they see a link to your site and the domain is it tells them nothing. However, if your domain is then they are much more likely to click.

As for the search engine rankings and keyword relevancy... If you target "work at home jobs in iowa" then make your domain name so you get the extra keywords and high relevancy.

Make sure you include the dashes. This is important because search engines can read "" much easier than they can read ""

So you see, having keyword rich domains can be very good for search engine rankings and human visitors.

Free Website Optimization Tip -- Delete Stop Words

Do you know what Stop Words are? Well, I didn't until recently. Maybe I am behind on things or maybe they are just something most people don't know about.

Whether stop words are common knowledge or not, I am going to pretend like I am teaching something, and tell you about them anyway.

Apparently stop words can have an impact on your rankings in the search engines so it is a good search engine optimization technique to take stop words out of your website title tag.

Here are a few examples of stop words:

a, an, and, but, he, her, his, i, in, it, of, on, or, she, the

There are also many other common words and characters ignored by some search engines. The search engines ignore those words to enhance the speed and relevancy of their search results.

So, if you have something like "home business opportunities and work at home information" as your website title, then the search engines may be ignoring the whole second part of your title because they stop at the word "and."

In fact the title tag of my site used to be "work at home jobs and home business opportunities" but after learning this I took the "and" out and added a comma.

Business Marketing Traffic Tip -- Personalized Signature

Adding your handwritten signature to your website is a surefire way to increase credibility and trust with your visitors. Along with the increase in credibility comes and increase in sales and/or business opportunity sign-ups.

I think it's crazy that something as simple as your handwritten signature on your website makes a difference in how you are seen. However, it is true!

When people see your real signature, in an online page, they start to humanize you more. It lets them know that a real person is behind the site and that is very important to many people.

So, scan your signature, edit it into a web graphic, and use it on your website in the saluatation.

This is actually a business marketing technique that I have yet to use. I have been meaning to, for quite a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I know... I know... I need to practice what I preach. I do have a friend that utilizes his signature on his websites. He says he doesn't have any concrete facts that it has been an effective markeing technique, but he does think it has a positive effect.

Anyway, just get out there and put your handwritten signature on your website.

Business Marketing Tip -- Relevant Information

One of the the most important (possibly the most important) functions of your business marketing should be to establish a good reputation with your prospects.

Show them that you are knowledgeable about your business topic and that they can trust you. Do this by sharing very good, relevant information with them on a regular basis, such as in a newsletter.

Share facts and other information that will help them in their decisions. Don't give them sales pitch after sales pitch. People hear this stuff numerous times everyday and they get tired of hearing it.

As soon as you start throwing a sales pitch at someone an automatic barrier shoots up. You lose credibility and trust with them. Instead sell yourself by overdelivering and giving away free, useful information.

Give them what they need without asking for anything in return, and you will soon have more sales then any old sales pitch would bring in.

Now, go and put together some great information to give to your prospects. This will be a business marketing effort that gives back much more than it takes.
